The Ventura Film Festival operates as an unrestricted genre international film festival that generates attention toward environmental issues such as terrestrial and aquatic preservation and renewal, by means of a yearly cinema celebration and connected programs. The Ventura Film Festival originated in 2004 and has displayed hundreds of movies, commonly surpassing 200 films each summer, and has drawn recognition from the global film industry. Some of the highlights have been presenting celebrated filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and Ian Cairns, quadruple world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA athlete martial arts icon Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which involved hosting the complete Academy Award winning ensemble of West Side Story, including Academy Award winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris and legendary actor Golden Globe winner/Academy Award nominee Russ Tamblyn. The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was invited to join, along with many of Hollywood's top stars, in the half-century commemoration website of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, along with Golden Globe honoree Russ Tamblyn at the historic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This celebration also functioned as the official BluRay premiere by Fox and MGM of the beloved West Side Story, which is broadly regarded by critics and fans as the finest musical of all time.
